Jacob is on the board of the National Coalition of Dialogue & Deliberation and has studied “mindful listening” across socio-political disagreements for a decade. His first book with Dr. Phil Neisser (Political Science Chair at SUNY-Potsdam) modeled how a liberal and conservative could gain profound insight while enjoying conversation about profound differences (“You're not as crazy as I thought, but you're still wrong”), while another text with Arthur Pena has explored how to promote more generous exploration between religious conservatives and the gay community (AThirdSpace.org). His upcoming book, Mindfully Mormon, explores synergies between “the Dharma and the Doctrine,” and considers ways in which Latter-day Saint faith practices can open up (built-in) opportunities for regular stopping, stillness and silence…IF we approach them mindfully! Jacob lives in a Paradise, Utah, with his wife, Monique, nine chickens, five cats and four boys that make sure their Daddy’s own stillness gets interrupted every 5 minutes or so.
